System Engineer (m/f/d) Space Crypto Systems - #2730673

Cryptography that nobody can touch after launch is a discipline of its own: no on-site technician, no hardware swaps. The unit has to withstand radiation, thermal cycling and launch loads, and still pass accreditation up to SECRET level.

Our client has been building exactly this for years for military reconnaissance, navigation and SATCOM missions, from LEO to GEO. As a System Engineer (m/f/d), you hold technical responsibility for the overall system. You define the architecture, coordinate all teams and take the project from the first requirement through to launch.

Your Responsibilities

• Own cryptographic systems for aerospace applications, from on-board encryption units on satellites to the associated ground stations
• Work closely with government and military customers, from requirements analysis to the implementation of security solutions for reconnaissance and communication satellites
• Design the system architecture and specify and integrate the hardware, firmware, software and mechanical subsystems
• Follow the device from concept through the clean room and vacuum chamber to integration into the satellite
• Plan and manage system tests, security evaluations and environmental tests such as thermal vacuum, shock and random vibration
• Coordinate development, testing, quality assurance and project management
• Ensure compliance with security standards through to government accreditation for classified information, and create and maintain system documentation and test concepts

Your profile

• Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering or a related field, or equivalent qualification
• Solid knowledge of cryptography and secure communication systems, particularly hardware-based (Secure Boot, HSM, FPGA/SoC)
• Experience developing hardware units, ideally in a technical lead role, and an understanding of hardware, firmware and software design; VHDL is a plus
• Experience coordinating milestone-based projects (PDR, CDR, QR) with a team of around 5–6 people
• Ideally, space industry experience (e.g. satellite on-board computers), knowledge of ECSS/CCSDS and environmental qualification (thermal vacuum, vibration, radiation, EMC)
• A plus: experience with classified information accreditation at national, NATO or EU level
• Fluent English

Benefits

• Hardware that actually flies into space: you'll see the satellite being assembled at the customer's site and share the excitement at launch
• Projects that matter to society, for government and European customers, with durations of four to five years
• Products that barely exist on the market: board design, firmware, software, housings and even the test equipment are all developed in-house
• 40-hour week with a working-time account and flexible hours, 30 days of vacation, bike leasing and company fitness (Wellpass)
