Job Description

Dear all,

We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join our Geodynamics and Geophysics group at the Department of Geosciences/MARUM, University of Bremen. This is a 3-year position, open to candidates' own research directions within the broad areas of numerical modelling of the processes driving rifting, oceanic spreading, and/or subduction. New aplication deadline: 7th October 2026.

The group investigates the dynamics of rifted margins and the formation of oceanic crust and plates. Research methods include developing and applying dynamic models of rifting and oceanic spreading, and integrating these models with geophysical, geochemical, and geological data.

The successful candidate will teach 4 hours per week in German or English at B.Sc[1]. and M.Sc[2]. level (

• 23 BremHG) and will co-supervise PhD and Master's students in the group. Candidates are expected to work towards their postdoctoral academic qualification (e.g., habilitation), to develop their own future project applications, and to actively contribute to and integrate with the group's research.
  
  

Your Qualifications

• A completed academic degree (Master’s/university diploma) in computational geodynamics or related fields.
• A completed, relevant and recognised PhD in the field of geosciences.
• Experience in numerical modelling and scientific computing (UNIX/LINUX, MATLAB/Python/Julia).
• Independent academic work with a consistent record of publications.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Ability to work in a team, high reliability, a sense of responsibility and a willingness to cooperate.
