Quantum Physicist — Simulation and Neutral Atoms - #2703163

Location: Remote within Europe, with regular presence in Bremen

Direct Reports: None; supervision of students possible

Working Model: Remote / hybrid. Regular time on-site in Bremen.

Mission

Lead our work on quantum simulation and atomic platforms. The role covers modelling and simulation of quantum many-body systems, model-based calibration of atomic hardware, and optimal control, combining research with a software product that puts those methods into other people's hands.

Responsibilities

Pillar 1 Simulation and Modelling

• Model and simulate quantum many-body systems, on hardware and in digital twins.
• Develop and validate models of neutral-atom and trapped-ion platforms against experimental data.
• Work on optimal control and pulse design for atomic systems.
  
  

Success Metrics and KPIs: model accuracy against measurement, methods delivered into the product.

Pillar 2 Hardware Engagement

• Support bring-up and calibration on partner and customer platforms.
• Act as the scientific interface to hardware vendors and research groups running atomic systems.
• Turn what is learned on hardware into product capability.
  
  

Accountability: calibration methods that work on real systems, not only in simulation.

Pillar 3 Research and Teaching

• Publish, and build collaborations with Constructor University faculty and external groups.
• Contribute to grant applications, including DFG and EU programmes.
• Contribute to course and teaching-lab material if that interests you.
  
  

Success Metrics and KPIs: publications, collaborations established, grant applications supported.

Requirements

Experience

• PhD in physics, with hands-on experience in neutral atoms, trapped ions or quantum simulation.
• Optimal control, noise modelling or open quantum systems.
• Experience in a leading experimental or theory group.
• Track record of publication.
  
  

Skills & Competencies

• Able to write the code you need. You do not need to be a software engineer.
• Comfortable moving between theory, simulation and real hardware.
• Interest in seeing methods reach users rather than stopping at the paper.
• Clear scientific communication.
  
  

Education & Languages

• PhD in physics or a closely related field.
• Fluent English.
